About Us

The Fresh Egg Shop was established in 1970 as a small retail outlet at which stage it was also a small farm. Today the shop is still supplied direct from The Leaney Family Egg farmers who now also own and run the shop.

The Leaneys took over The Fresh Egg Shop in 2011 as a retail outlet, to sell their large range of eggs they produce on their Chirpy Chook Egg Farm for the last 50 years. Andrew now runs the successful Chirpy Chook Egg Farm after taking over from his beloved late father Brian Leaney.

The Fresh Egg Shop now supplies over 500 local Cafes, Bakeries, Delis and Restaurants across Adelaide weekly. Andrews wife Angela runs the retail store and encourages a happy, friendly atmosphere where the staff are only too happy to carry your eggs to your car for you. We believe in old fashioned service helping our customers to their car. The farm and shop employ over 25 staff including all of their own children with Chris, their son, on the farm and Anna-lise, their daughter in the shop. Steven the youngest boy loves helping and learning about the chickens and will also have a future in the family business. The Leaney Family pride themselves on their delicious tasting eggs and produce over 20000 eggs daily on their farm.

Their delicious tasting Rise & Shine Free-Range eggs are the result of free-range hens roaming on their large farm. They run 1500 hens to the hectare and sometimes less than that. Andrew crops the land around the farm growing wheat, peas, triticale, barley and beans resulting in a wholesome home-grown chicken food, which supplements the hens diet besides their own pickings in the fields. The manure collected from the sheds is composted and then spread back onto the paddocks and used as organic fertiliser for the crops. Rainwater is also collected and fed back to the chickens. This results in delicious, tasting eggs which are delivered to The Fresh Egg Shop daily where you can purchase our delicious eggs.
